AUDIOPHILES: March

Once more, Alistair Young of Bristol based music group and monthly session Audiophiles treats you to a guest column to purvey what’s what in their books. Here’s looking at March:
It’s been another busy month for team Audiophiles – so many great gigs, club nights and more besides! Starting with the crazy dance antics of Dan Deacon, we’ve taken in the delicate folktronica of Villagers, the 80’s synth-pop stylings of soon-to-be-massive Chvrches and the punk rock yowl of FIDLAR! We’ve also had some terrific nights out like the Futureboogie 11th Birthday with Maxxi Soundsystem and Anthony Naples at the Motorcycle Showrooms. Special mention to LCD Soundsystem night at Rise with their farewell concert screened in full – apologies to whoever had clear up the balloons afterwards!
Best of all though have been the local Bristol acts. The Spectres EP launch party was another fantastic night courtesy of Howling Owl Records – these guys have a real knack for putting on great shows in interesting venues! Post-rockers Casimir played an amazing show at Start the Bus in support of their new ‘Not Mathematics’ EP along with our good friends Parrington Jackson! We also managed to catch the excellent Seasfire on the same night!
Coming up in March there’s some brilliant gigs going on including Maps & Atlases on the 8th and Ulrich Schnauss and the Fauns on the 30th, both at the Louisiana. Most excitingly though, our old friends I Am Horse will be playing a special album launch gig at the Cube on the 16th! Can’t wait!
Louie, Louie!

We’ve got a fantastic March session lined up for Tuesday the 12th at the Louisiana – this time including two live bands! First up we have the beautiful folky melodies of ForgetMeKnot who’ll play an acoustic set in the cellar, and then we have the post-rock explosion that is Casimir playing our first ever electric set upstairs! Both bands will also chat to us about their music and we’ve even got a third interview with I Am Horse who’ll be telling us about their upcoming debut album!
In-between we’ve got some great new albums to listen to – from the shuffling electronica of Thom Yorke’s new project, Atoms For Peace, to the psychedelic rock of Hookworms. We can’t wait for what’s going to be our most action-packed session yet! Hope you can join us!
Audiophiles on the Airwaves

We’ve been mixing things up a bit on the radio show this month – firstly there was an interview special with Dutch Uncles, Marika Hackman and Milo Greene, then we had a live music special recorded about town as the crew checked out Chvrches, Mazes and Cyril Hahn all in one night! We’ve also had the fantastic Seasfire on as guests, chatting about their music and spinning tunes!
Coming up in March we’re very excited to have our new friends Casimir on the show! Audiophiles radio shows go out every Monday afternoon 3 – 4 on 93.2 BCFM. Catch up with all our past shows here!
